Thoughts of a Canadian University Student

So my mark in 225 got fixed OH YEAH. I'd originally (after a long and arduous process because something happened to the professor after finals) gotten a B, but that didn't make a lot of sense with how I'd been doing in the class, unless I bombed the final. So I went to Dr. Luth to check and see if maybe they'd messed up my lab marks. See, I switched into the lab informally, but with permission and they'd warned me they might forget to record the grades. Which, it turned out, they did. They'd given me a 0 for 4 out of 6 labs. After fixing that very large gaff it popped up my term mark over 10% leaving me with a very nice A. (And no, I hadn't bombed the final, I got a 95.5 on it. Booyah!)

I'll stop bragging now, it isn't very nice I suppose. But I is SOOOOO happy I is!

I LOVE dance class so much, although Allan didn't make it *glares*. We learned how to reverse turn in waltz and........Cha-Cha. Oooh baby, sizzling, hip-swinging motion. Talk about a sexy dance. Plus, it's a dance I really "feel", you can really get into the music and some guy told me I was the best girl he'd ever danced with. :D

I'd like to point out that it's just as cold at home as it is here in Edmonton, here's a picture taken by a local:

And mind you, that's WITHOUT windchill.

The weather has gone nuts. It's -33C with a windchill of -46C, which means I am stuck inside because I'm not supposed to go out when it's this cold with my asthma. Of course, I do EVENTUALLY have to go out, because I have a lab today. But I was kind of hoping that it would "warm up" a little this afternoon. However, since I got up this morning it has actually gotten progressively COLDER. So scratch that. Kayla left this morning layered up, she looked like a marshmallow. I myself at the moment have on long johns, kneesocks, cords, t-shirt, fleece vest, hoodie, fleece jacket, and a polar fleece blanket doubled over and I'm still cold. When I leave to go out I'm going to add to that snowpants, hiking boots with gaiters (gators? I don't know how to spell that but they're covers to go over low boots to keep wind/rain/snow out), my parka, tuque, two scarves, and two pairs of mitts. Wish me luck.

Well let's compare suppers from tonight and last night:
Last night: Pizza 73 Pepperoni pizza and BBQ wings with Ranch sauce
Tonight: Spaghetti with pesto, and spinach salad with Balsamic Vinagrette, havarti cheese, and dried cranberries

To be honest, I don't know which one was better :) I'm all about wings to tell the truth.........plus I didn't have to make the first one, Elizabeth, Michelle and I ordered in before dancing at the Stonehouse. But nonetheless dinner tonight was positively yummy as well.

So when I went to the doctor this morning to get my referral to the Allergist (March 1 is my appointment now, geez nothing like waiting months for medical care, but I digress) and he gave me a recommendation for a book about sleep disorders to try and help the insomnia. So we'll see how that works.

In other news coffee with Elizabeth and Michelle and lots of other friends was wonderful, Michelle was kind enough to drive over an pick me up because my ankle was not so happy with me after all my walking today. Elizabeth made awesome banana bread from the Betty Crocker Redbook (unfortunately not the Red Book of Westmarch, ha ha), we knitted and watched Jeopardy! and then when everyone else got there we played a hysterical game of Cranium. Which my team one. Yay! On Saturday we're going out dancing, the whole whack of "coffee people".

This is just stupid. Why can't I sleep? Since the turn of the New Year I slept through the night exactly once. Every other night I either don't fall asleep until some God-forsaken hour of the morning, or I fall asleep and then wake up every hour or two until my alarm goes off. According to WebMD insomnia is usually caused by caffeine, excercise, or food. Well, let's look at last night as an example (where I didn't fall asleep until sometime close to 3AM). Caffeine: one cup of tea, 3PM. Excercise: walked to and from grocery store from about 1-2PM. Food: had supper at 5PM. Before bed: did some knitting. Went to bed at 11PM, had gotten up that morning at about 9:30AM. So wtf? I can't do anything else right! I've changed every habit they told me to and I'm still only averaging about 5 hours to 3 hours of sleep a night. I'm like a zombie in my classes. I'm somewhere between napping and passing out all day.

So I'm back, after a little more than a month. It's hard to keep updating when I have so much to do! On Monday's I have a lab and coffee at Elizabeths', on Tuesday's a lab and Dance Club, on Wednesday's a lab and choir, Thursday's a lab, and Friday's I get all to myself. Saturday is choir again, and Sunday's I rest. So you can see I'm more than busy. Updates:

Dec. 16 Trilogy Tuesday was unbelieveably awesome, I wore my Arwen headdress and a robe (why yes I am a nerd, thanks very much). Allan and I were away over in the bottom left corner so my neck was sore after the 12 hours, but ROTK is TOTALLY awesome and I can't wait to get it on DVD in Extended Edition. It damn well better win some Oscars or I will never watch them again. Not that I do anway.
Dec. 17 Saw ROTK again, along with getting to visit with Rowan, Whitney and Ben.
Dec. 18 Cast came off, got another one on
Dec. 19 Flew Home

Christmas holidays were good, we made our igloo but it melted and collapsed since Boxing Day was +4C. My presents were awesome, notably Hawai'i money, sheepskin slippers, Finding Nemo, Swiss Army Knife, and binoculars. I got a cold which kind of killed the last half of the holidays.

Jan. 2 Flew back here and was so sick that night I went and found out I had an ear infection and a sinus infection and a throat infection. Only me.

Since then I've gone back to class, done some labs, had fun in dance, and gotten my last cast off. At the moment I'm making a new necklace, little silver stars.

Here's a neat page to visit, it explains the laws of cartoon physics
